Shave for the Brave 2017 - Shave for the Brave 2017

Welcome to April Watson's page

Welcome to my online fundraising page!

Can you believe that this is the 6th year that I will be shaving my head for YACC? I know I can’t!

Every year when I’m fundraising, or just after I’ve done the shave, I have people say to me “You’re so brave for doing this!” and my reply is always, “I’m not brave. The people with cancer, that have no choice about having no hair, are the brave ones. Not me.” And it’s true. They truly are.Cancer patients take these treatments that cause them pain; treatments that make them sick; treatments that on top of everything else, can make them lose their hair. That is why we shave. We shave to honour those brave people who are fighting for their lives, and who often have no hair because of it. This year I want to go a step above that.

Let me explain.

It’s no secret that cancer treatments can cause people to lose their hair. We all know that. And if you somehow didn’t, well I mentioned it up above. It’s why we shave as a fundraiser for them. But the thing is,well, a cancer patient doesn’t lose all the hair on their head one day, then have it start to grow back the next day, or the next week. Some patients have no hair for years because of treatments. So to honour those people, I want to spend a year with no hair as well, and raise money for YACC while doing it.

In previous years, I’ve raised a good amount of money. I think the most I raised one year , was between $500 and $600. That’s a great amount, but this year, I want to do more. This year, to raise more money for YACC, and to honour those that YACC helps, even more than usual, I want to spend an entire year with no hair. And I need your help to do that.

Here’s how it’d work.

March 25th 2017 is the big community shave at the Avalon Mall, where I’ll be shaving. It also just so happens to be my 33rd birthday. I have decided that for every $100 I get in donations, I will keep my head shaved for a month. My hair grows really fast, so that means I will reshave my head every Saturday,  with clippers with no guard on, just like the original shave. If I can raise$1,200.00 that would mean that I would keep my head shaved for an entire year.I would spend the entire 34th year of my life, with no hair.

How can you help?
